Connect a Vobiz Number

Route incoming calls on a Vobiz phone number to your HelloAIConnect voice agent, and let the agent call people from it.

Vobiz sells Indian phone numbers (Airtel / Jio / VIL) with pay-per-minute calling. This guide connects a Vobiz number to one of your agents so that every call to that number is answered by the agent.

It takes about 10 minutes, and you don't need any technical setup on your side.

How it works

Caller → your Vobiz number → Vobiz inbound trunk → HelloAIConnect → your agent

Vobiz receives the call and forwards it to HelloAIConnect. HelloAIConnect recognises the number and hands the call to the agent you linked it to.

Before you start

  • A Vobiz account with balance. Numbers are billed monthly, and calls are billed per minute.
  • A HelloAIConnect agent that is Active
  • Our SIP address, which you get in step 1

Step 1: Get our SIP address

Contact us through the support page and ask for the HelloAIConnect SIP address for Vobiz. We'll reply with an address that looks like this:

xxxxxxxxxx.sip.livekit.cloud

You'll paste it into Vobiz in step 3.

Step 2: Buy a number on Vobiz

  1. In the Vobiz console, open Numbers → Buy new number
  2. Pick a number and complete the purchase. Indian numbers need your KYC to be approved first (Setup → KYC).
  3. Note the number in full international format, e.g. +918071583348

Trial numbers on a Vobiz trial account may not accept real calls. Recharge your Vobiz account before testing.

Step 3: Create an inbound trunk on Vobiz

  1. Go to SIP Trunk → Inbound Trunks and click Create trunk
  2. Fill in the form:
FieldWhat to enter
Trunk NameAnything you like, e.g. my-ai-agent
Origination URIClick + Add New URI. Give it any name (e.g. helloai) and enter our SIP address from step 1 with :5060 at the end, e.g. xxxxxxxxxx.sip.livekit.cloud:5060. Then select it in the dropdown.
Call RecordingLeave off. HelloAIConnect already saves transcripts and recordings.
WebhookLeave blank
  1. Click Create Trunk
  2. Open the new trunk, click Link Numbers and link the number from step 2

When you're done, the trunk shows Enabled and your number appears under Linked Numbers.

Step 4: Add the trunk to your agent

  1. In HelloAIConnect, open Voice Agents and select the agent that should answer the calls
  2. Open the SIP Trunk tab
  3. Fill in the form:
FieldWhat to enter
Trunk NameAnything you like, e.g. vobiz-main-line
SIP ProviderVobiz
Phone NumbersYour Vobiz number in international format, e.g. +918071583348
  1. Save

When Vobiz is selected, the form doesn't ask for a region, SIP domain, username or password. Vobiz forwards incoming calls to us, and we match them by phone number, so none of those are needed.

To route more than one Vobiz number to the same agent, link them all to the Vobiz trunk and enter one per line in Phone Numbers.

Step 5: Test it

Call your Vobiz number from any phone. The agent should answer within a second or two with its welcome message.

The call then appears in Call Logs with its transcript.

Outbound calls

Your agent can also call people from your Vobiz number: one call at a time, placed from Outbound Calls in the sidebar. Use it for service calls to people who expect to hear from you, such as appointment reminders, callbacks and follow-ups on a form they filled in. Outbound calls work for Indian numbers (+91) only.

Outbound calling is switched off by default. If you don't see Outbound Calls in the sidebar, contact support and we'll switch it on for your account.

Promotional or marketing calls in India need DLT registration and a 140-series number. Keep to service calls, and check with Vobiz which numbers and registrations your use case needs.

Step 1: Get your outbound credentials from Vobiz

  1. In the Vobiz console, go to SIP Trunk → Outbound Trunks and click Create trunk
  2. Give it any name, leave call recording, transcription and the webhook off, and leave IP Access Control List empty
  3. Under Credentials List, click + Create New Credential, choose a username and a strong password, and select it
  4. Click Create Trunk, then open it and copy the SIP domain (it looks like 3f29a806.sip.vobiz.ai)

The outbound trunk has no numbers to link. The caller ID is sent with each call, from the number you enter in HelloAIConnect, so use a number you own on Vobiz.

Step 2: Connect the trunk to your agent

  1. Open Voice Agents, select the agent and open the SIP Trunk tab
  2. In Outbound calling → Vobiz outbound trunk, fill in:
FieldWhat to enter
SIP domainThe domain from step 1, e.g. abc123.sip.vobiz.ai
Username / PasswordThe credential from step 1 (the username inside it, as shown on Vobiz's Credentials tab)
Caller IDYour Vobiz number in international format, e.g. +918071583348. This is the number the person you call sees.
  1. Click Connect trunk

We pass the password to our calling provider and don't keep a copy. To change it later, edit the trunk and type the new one; leave the field blank to keep the current password.

Step 3: Set the opening line

On the agent's Specifications tab, the Welcome Message card becomes Opening Line once the agent has an outbound trunk. Edit it and write what the agent says once the person answers and says hello, e.g. "Hi, this is Priya from Sunrise Clinic calling about your appointment tomorrow." Leave it empty and the agent introduces itself from its instructions instead.

The agent waits for the person to speak first. If they stay silent for about three seconds, the agent starts anyway.

Step 4: Place a call

  1. Open Outbound Calls in the sidebar
  2. Pick the Agent that should make the call. Only agents with a connected outbound trunk can be picked.
  3. Enter the number to call, e.g. +919876543210
  4. Optionally add notes for this call, e.g. "Confirm Ramesh's 5pm appointment tomorrow." The agent uses them as context for this call only.
  5. Click Call now

Each agent makes one call at a time. A live card under the button follows the call (Calling, On the call, then the result). Every outbound call, answered or not, is listed under Outbound Calls → Call Logs (and the details the agent collected under Call Info), kept separate from Call Logs, which shows the calls people make to you. Click a call to open its transcript, recording and summary. Calls that weren't answered show why: No answer, Busy, Declined, Invalid number or Trunk error. While a call is ringing you can stop it with Cancel call (it is listed as Cancelled), and once it is answered End call hangs up. Some networks don't report a declined call, so it keeps ringing until the 30-second limit unless you cancel it.

Troubleshooting

  • I don't see a SIP Trunk tab. It isn't enabled on your account yet. Contact support and we'll switch it on.
  • "Number not reachable", or the call doesn't ring. Check that the number is linked to the inbound trunk on Vobiz, that the trunk is Enabled, and that your Vobiz balance isn't empty.
  • The call rings but nobody answers. Check that the origination URI on the Vobiz trunk is exactly the SIP address we sent you followed by :5060, with no sip: in front and no extra spaces.
  • The call is rejected straight away. The number in the HelloAIConnect SIP Trunk tab must match the Vobiz number exactly, including +91.
  • The agent answers but uses the wrong settings. Check that you added the trunk on the right agent. Each number routes to the agent whose SIP Trunk tab lists it.
  • Outbound calls end with "Trunk error". Check the SIP domain against your Vobiz outbound trunk and the username and password against its credential, that the caller ID is a number on your Vobiz account, and that your Vobiz balance isn't empty.
  • Outbound calls say "Invalid number". Enter the full number with +91 and ten digits, e.g. +919876543210.

Still stuck? Contact support with your Vobiz number and the time you called, and we'll trace the call.
